INTRODUCTION
At our Centre of Excellence in Orthopaedics, the Ortho-Spine Unit provides comprehensive care for spinal deformities in both adults and children. Recognising the unique needs of young patients, we conduct a dedicated Paediatric Spine OPD once a week, ensuring early detection, regular monitoring, and timely intervention for conditions like scoliosis and kyphosis.
Understanding Scoliosis
Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine, most commonly appearing during childhood or adolescence. While some cases remain mild, progressive scoliosis can lead to posture imbalance, breathing difficulty, and reduced quality of life. Early diagnosis and intervention are key to preventing long-term complications.
- Mild Curvature – Managed with physiotherapy, exercises, and postural training to maintain strength and mobility.
- Moderate Curvature – Often treated with physiotherapy and spinal bracing (e.g., TLSO brace); surgery may be considered if progression continues.
- Severe or Progressive Curvature – Advanced surgical correction is recommended to restore alignment and protect long-term function.
For growing children with rapidly progressing scoliosis, our surgeons use techniques such as:
- Growing Rod Surgery
- Special rods are attached above and below the curve.
- The rods can be lengthened periodically as the child grows.
- This preserves spinal growth while correcting the deformity.
- Definitive Corrective Surgery
- Performed for adolescents or severe cases,
aligning the spine with rods, screws, and fusion for stable long-term results.
- Intraoperative Neuromonitoring (SSEP / MEP)
- Continuous monitoring of spinal cord and nerve signals during surgery, ensuri
ng the highest level of safety.
- Dedicated Paediatric Spine OPD for specialised evaluation and ongoing follow-up.
- Comprehensive scoliosis care for children and adults under one roof.
- Highly skilled spine surgeons trained in advanced deformity correction.
- Multidisciplinary support – physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and counselling for patients and families.
- Centre of Excellence with a specialised Ortho-Spine Unit.
- Early diagnosis & regular monitoring through a dedicated paediatric spine clinic.
- State-of-the-art surgical techniques with precision correction.
- Focus on long-term outcomes – function, mobility, and confidence.
- Compassionate rehabilitation for a smoother, quicker recovery.
A New Beginning with a Straighter Spine
Scoliosis surgery does more than straighten the back – it restores balance, confidence, and quality of life. With expert surgeons, advanced technology, and child-friendly care, our Ortho-Spine Unit ensures that every child and adult receives the safest, most effective treatment possible.
